| Forestry Technicians NORTH STATE RESOURCES, INC. (NSR) is seeking resumes for Forestry and Botany Technicians to install new and re-measure existing Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) plots in various national forests. NSR will provide training in field procedures corresponding to the current US Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis methodology. Required knowledge and skills: Experience in accurately identifying tree, shrub, grass and forb species and the use of dichotomous key (Jepson Manual) for identification; orienteering with topographic maps and aerial photos; robust health and fitness for working in a wide range of physically demanding and environmentally challenging conditions. Familiarity with forest mensuration techniques, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), clinometer, and electronic data recorders is desirable. Experience in California/Oregon forests and academic training in natural resources is preferred. Primary responsibilities: Two-person crews will accurately re-locate/monument plot centers using GPS and aerial photos, collect vegetation and stand data using Forest Service protocol and record information into data recorders. We are seeking individuals physically and mentally capable of working under a wide range of physical and environmental conditions. Typical tour includes off-trail hiking in rugged steep terrain and vehicle camping. Some backpacking in wilderness areas is required. NSR provides vehicles and all work-related equipment necessary.
