| Registered Professional Forester NSR has a unique opportunity for a professional Forester to participate in Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA), a nationwide program that for 70 years has served as the Nation’s forest census. The purpose of the program is to define and determine the extent and condition of the forest resources and the changes which occur over time. More information about the FIA program is available at www.fs.fed.us/pnw/fia. This position will be based from the PSW Remote Sensing Lab in McClellan, CA. The successful candidate will assist the Forest Service staff with FIA training and certification of contract staff assigned to field data collection, FIA vegetation plot inspections for quality control/quality assurance, and electronic plot file preparations and validations. Field work will require suitable clothing, boots, and safety equipment, and may constitute up to 50% of the work. Office responsibilities will include creation of simple GIS map products, map plot work, and management of field inventory records in support of substantial field effort. As time permits during the non-field season, the forester will provide assistance with on-screen vegetation mapping and editing.
