Environmental Planner/Scientist (Sacramento)

We are currently seeking a highly motivated mid- or senior- level Environmental Planner/Scientist to be a member of our multi-disciplinary team. The position will be based in our Sacramento branch office, with project-related opportunities throughout the company’s other offices in Redding, Chico, and Mt. Shasta. NSR is currently working on a number of challenging, high-profile projects for federal, state, and local agencies on North Coast, along the Sacramento River, in southern Oregon, and in western Nevada. In addition, we hold prime on-call contracts with numerous federal, state, and local agencies, including the US Army Corps of Engineers, US Bureau of Reclamation, and US Forest Service.


The successful candidate will be responsible for executing a variety of environmental planning and compliance activities, including: identifying project issues and paths to environmental approvals; conducting data research and analyses; conducting general site surveys; compiling and analyzing technical information to support evidence-based environmental impact analyses; developing substantial sections of environmental documents, including those required by NEPA and CEQA; and assisting with a variety of other projects, including permit applications, natural systems management and restoration plans, technical background studies, environmental constraints analyses, and planning documents. Experienced and accomplished planners/scientists will have the opportunity to manage projects.


Desired Education, Skills, and Experience:
The position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental planning, science, or related field; and minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental planning, NEPA/CEQA compliance and document preparation, and regulatory permitting. GIS training and experience are desirable, as is participation in projects involving water resources and/or transportation and infrastructure. Excellent writing, oral communication, and computer skills are required. The position requires proven experience in environmental consulting, including technical analysis and problem-solving. Experience in meeting facilitation and public involvement is a plus. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an active interest in current environmental planning issues, such as through appropriate professional certifications and affiliations with relevant professional organizations.
