Professional Biologist (Botanist / Ecologist / Wetlands Scientist) NSR is currently seeking a Professional Biologist to join our interdisciplinary team of environmental consultants. This mid-level position will be based in our Sacramento office, with project-related opportunities throughout the company. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing technical biological work in both field and office settings. Field work may include floristic surveys, field inventories, reconnaissance-level habitat characterizations, wetlands evaluation and delineation, and / or special-status species surveys. Office work will include research and database queries, data compilation and analysis, directing the preparation of mapping products, and report preparation to meet a variety of documentation needs. NSR expects that the person in this position will be able to assist with providing expert consulting services to public agency and private clients and to interact professionally with resource and regulatory agencies. Internally, NSR expects that the person in this position will participate productively with other biologists, planners, and professionals in a wide range of projects of varying size and complexity. Biologists with demonstrated capabilities will have opportunities to manage their own projects. Desired Education and Experience: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, environmental science, or other relevant discipline. Excellent writing, oral communication and computer skills are required. The position may be filled at either of two levels. Level 2 professionals must have a minimum of three years of professional experience, and be capable of understanding project requirements, overseeing the work of Level 1 professionals, and executing technical work under the direction of Level 3 or 4 professionals. Level 3 professionals must have a minimum of five years of professional experience, and be capable of scoping and defining project needs; developing budgets, schedules, and study methodologies; analyzing complex issues; preparing contract deliverables; directing, supervising, reviewing the work products of Level 1 and 2 staff; and maintaining effective public agency and client contacts. Preferred experience includes assessment of biological impacts under NEPA and CEQA, preparation of Biological Assessments / Biological Evaluations, assistance in regulatory permitting, including Section 404 of the Clean Water Act; and assistance with compliance under the state and federal Endangered Species Act and natural resource protection regulations. Additional relevant experience may include participation in developing natural resource management plans, habitat restoration plans, and designing biological mitigation programs.
