Archaeologist/Archaeological Technicians

Requirements: Archaeological Technicians shall have a minimum of 12 months of specialized experience (e.g. assisting in the taking of comprehensive field notes; preparing sketch maps, site forms, isolate forms; photographing sites, features, and artifacts in the field; recognizing artifacts and features; filling out site records; off-road driving; searching for archaeological sites using various pedestrian survey strategies; tagging; flagging; signing; and orienteering with topographic maps and aerial photos); or education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of post high-school course of study leading to a four-year bachelor’s degree with courses related to archaeology. Camping out is likely and robust health and fitness for working in a wide range of physically demanding and environmentally challenging conditions is required. Familiarity with GPS is desirable. Recent experience in California forests and academic training in cultural resource management is preferred. Archaeologists must have, at a minimum, the Archaeological Technician qualification requirements and one year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
